MOONSPELL weekend!!!

Halloween weekend was the best amazing weekend I can ever have. I went to Ramona on Halloween night with my sister and friend to go see a band called Moonspell, which they come from Portugal. We arrived around 3:30 p.m. We were the first ones there. Perhaps and hour or two later the band arrives. As we were outside we see the singer, Fernando, and we take a picture with him. We were let in the venue early, so we were watching the band setup and do their soundcheck and stuff. It comes down to around 8:oo p.m and we are by the bar. Out of nowhere there they are just chilling. So I go up to the bass player, Don Aires, and i take a picture and get his autograph. Then I let him be because he was eating. Afterwards he comes up to us and starts to talk to us for a good hour or so. Then the drummer, Miguel/Mike, comes out and we take a picture with him and he starts to talk to us for an hour aswell. During that hour he introduced us to his friend Pedro and we are all there just conversating. Then he speaks to Pedro in Portuguese and tells him something I don’t know what, but Pedro leaves and comes back with shirts. They gave us free shirts that we didn’t even asked for. I almost wanted to cry. They also invited us to chill with them after the show but since it was a a two hour drive we didn’t want to risk it. It came around 10:00 p.m so we went by the stage until Moonspell played. We were right in the front. The setlist was AMAZING!!! They started off with At Tragic Heights followed by Night Eternal, Finisterra. After this I don’t remember the order Opium, Wolfshade ( A Werewolf Masquerade), Scorpion Flower, Vampiria, Moon in Mercury, Alma Mater, Blood Tells, Mephisto, i think Nocturna and I do remember the last song since it is my favorite Full Moon Madness. At the end of the show I got the drumstick. This ended the first night of a two part series ;D.

Now the second night was held in Hollywood at the Roxy Theatre. Better than the first night! Well we arrived around sevenish and the doors had barely opened. It was the same bands and same setlist. Well when they finished it was around 2:45 a.m and Mike told us to wait because they wanted to give us something. Pedro came out and he told us to go backstage and we did. So we go uptairs and they gave us each a paper signed by all of them and with the complete setlist. Afterwards we were there sitting with Mike and Pedro talking and just hanging out. Then the guitar player Ricardo comes and joins us. We also take a picture with him. It comes down to like 4:15 a.m and their tourbus finally arrives. So we go outside and they invite us in. That tourbus was huge and really nice. Since we only had about fifteen minutes left because they were going to Tempe, Arizona, we made it the best fifteen minutes. Well when it was time to get off the bus, the band comes out aswell and says their goodbyes to us. We took our final picture with the guitar/keyboardis which his name is also Pedro. The crazy part was that they remember our names and hopefully they will remember us until next time. Here are some pictures from both the shows.

What makes me rage…

I go to shows often, and every time it seems I get good and bad luck. Good luck because I get to meet the band, take pictures with them, get to hang out with them, and all that good stuff. But my bad luck is my rage. Since I love to be in the front to see the band play, I always arrive early. For some reason, there are always two or three people trying to steal my spot by pushing me and pulling me. That is the first thing that builds up my rage. The second thing is the guys that are next to me happen to always be taller, and when they raise their arms their armpits always smell! That sets off my rage. I mean c’mon, if you go to a show or concert atleast have the courtersy to put on deoderant or something. The good thing is that we are at a show, therefore there are moshpits to take your anger out. (For those who don’t know, a moshpit is a pit in the middle of the crowd that consists of a bunch of people going in a circle pushing and hitting eachother.)

Masters of the Dark Art

Norway is the stronghold of the religion-hating genre known as black metal. For a decade, Dimmu Borgir, Icelandic for “Dark Fortress,” has been ranked as a black eminence. Dimmu’s latest CD, “In Sorte Diaboli,” which translates to according to guitarist Silenoz “a fateful connectivity with the devil,”is one of the first extreme black metal albums to top Norway’s pop charts. In 2003 Dimmu played in Ozzfest that is held here in San Bernardino every year, for the very first time. As they entered the stage, they were booed, but not for long. Once they began to play, they shut them up. Thanks to the cathedral sounds of the keyboards, the crazy sounds of the kick drum, dark and doomy sounds of the heavy guitar riffs, and to top it all off the bestial roars of the vocalists as well as the mesmerizing operatic vocals of the bass player. Dimmu Borgir is no band to mess with. If you want heavy “evil” music, they are the band to listen to.

Sonata Arctica on Billboard Chart Entry!!!

Sonata Arctica comment on Billboard Chart Entry

The members of SONATA ARCTICA have checked in from their current North American tour with DRAGONFORCE in support of their latest release, The Days Of Grays, which recently debuted on the Billboard Top New Artist “Heatseeker’s” chart at #19 the week following its release date. This industry chart lists the best-selling albums by new artists who have never appeared on the Top 100 of the Billboard 200.

This is amazing! I have listen to Sonata Arctica for five years now. I have been to all their concerts here in the U.S. I remember the first time they came to the U.S, man it was an awesome show. I am so happy for them. Finally they are beginning to rise here in America. Can’t wait when they come back to do a headlining tour for their new album.

Human Drumkit at the Galaxy Theatre 9/17/09

The show in Santa Ana at the Galaxy Theatre on September 17 was an amazing show! It started off with the band playing “Paid in Full” from their Unia album. Then if I’m correct, it was “It Won’t Fade” from the same album. I don’t really remember how the order of the songs went but they played the following: “Full Moon”, “Replica”, “Caleb”, “Flag in the Ground”, “The Last Amazing Grays”, “Everything Fades to Gray”, “White Pearl, Black Oceans”, “Black Sheep”, “Last Drop Falls”, “Black and White”, “The Cage”, “Vodka-Hava Nagila”(it’s a sing along song), and “Don’t Say A Word”. Well, when it came down to the last three songs, the singer, Tony, was left on stage by himself to speak to the audience. He said “How are you doing tonight Santa Ana?”
We responded with a loud scream.“WOOOOOOOHOOOO”
“Do you want to be part of a drum kit?” He asked.
“YEAH!” We screamed.
“Do you want to be a part of a drum kit I said”
“YEAH!!!” We screamed as loud as we can.
“Alrighty then. I am going to divide you guys into three groups. To my left you will be group one, the hi- hat. I want you to make this sound tiss tiss tiss.”
“TISS! TISS! TISS!” Group one copied.
“ To my center you will be group two (in which I was in). I want you to be my snare drum. I want you to make this sound boom boom boom.”
“BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” We yelled.
“ Great. Now last but not least to my right, group three you are my kick drum. So I want you to make this sound bam bam bam.”
“BAM! BAM! BAM!” Group three screamed.
“Now let me test you out to see if you are ready.” So he points to group one and they go “TISS! TISS! TISS!” Then to group two “BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” Then to group three “BAM! BAM! BAM!”
“Ok perfect. Now we can start. (Long pause) Oh, I need a pair of drumsticks. Where are my drumsticks? (The drummer comes out and gives him a pair of drumsticks). Ok NOW we can start.” He said. So he sits on the chair in the center of the stage in front of his microphone, and starts to pretend to play drums using us as a drum kit. He starts with group one and they go “TISS TISS.” Then to group two “BOOM.” Now back to group one “TISS TISS.” Then back to group two “BOOM.” Then to group three “BAM.” So he continues with that pattern and then he starts to sing:
“Buddy you’re a boy make a big noise
Playin in the street gonna be a big man some day
You got mud on yo face You big disgrace
Kickin your can all over the place…” And points to the audience and we all start to sing “We will we will rock you, we will we will rock you…” then the rest of the band comes out and begin to play their instruments. Then the band finishes that song, which it is a cover song by QUEEN, and we the audience go crazy. Screaming at our top of our lungs, “WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO YEAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!” Then they go on playing the rest of their set list. Here is the link if you wish to see it:

Sonata Arctica

Sonata Arctica!!! What can I say about them…hmmm that they hail from the dark depths of Finland. The band was born in 1996 in Kemi, Finland. First the name started off as Tricky Beans, then they changed it to Trycky Means. Finally in summer of 1999 they changed their name to Sonata Arctica which that same year they recorded their first single Unopened. At that time the line-up consisted of Tony (vocals/keyboards), Jani (guitars), Tommy (drums), and Janne (bass). This single brought them into the power metal scene. Then, their line up changed to Elias as guitars and Marco as bass. Now they are about to start a North American tour in support of Dragonforce, but they are playing a couple of headlining shows. On September 17, 2009 they are playing at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana which i am going to go . I’m very excited eventhough this will be my fourth time seeing them!!! They always play awesome shows. Well here are a couple of songs from their new album The Days of Grays and other albums as well so enjoy!

This here is Tarja Turunen one of Finland’s best lyric soprano singer. She is also well known all throughout Europe, Asia, and South America. She is slowly rising in North America. Born in Kitee, Finland on August 17, 1977 Tarja began to study music at the age of six and by the age of eighteen she began to study at the Sibelius Academy in Kuopio. She was one of the founder members of a band called Nightwish in the year of 1996 and recorded an album Angel’s Fall First. That was the first time she was introduced to heavy metal. That same year Tarja performed with the Savonlinna Opera Festival. Nevertheless she didn’t become internationally famous the release of Nightwish’s second album, Oceanborn, in 1998. In 1999 she sang solo in Waltari’s rock-themed ballet called Evankeliumi (Evangelicum) at the Finnish National Opera. In 2002 Nightwish’s album, Century Child, came out which a follow up of Tarja performing in South America in the classical Lied Noche Escandinavia (Scandinavian Night). Following that was a world tour with Nightwish. In December of 2003 Tarja Halonen (President of Finland) and her husband invited Tarja Turunen to the President’s Palace in Helsinki for the Finnish Independence Day party. One of Finland’s biggest social events in which Tarja was named the best dressed lady by the viewers of Yle finnish television also by many magazines and newspapers. In 2004-2005 Tarja rejoined Nightwish for the next album Once and another world tour. On october 21, 2005 Tarja was asked to leave Nightwish through a public open letter by the other members adressing her “change of attitude” and her”asking” for more money. She responded back through another open letter. Hence this did not stop her from doing what she does best. In November 2007 Tarja released her first independent album My Winter Storm and accomplished gold status in Finland on the day of the release. The albulm also achieved number one on the Finnish charts as well as platinum in Finland, gold in Russia, Czhech Republic, and in Hungary. She began a world tour on late 2007 which she is still touring. The picture above is when I went to go see her live on May 8,2009 at the House of Blues in Hollywood. That was her first time to ever come to North America. That was one of the best shows that I have ever been to so far. I recommend you to listen to her and give her a chance. Her voice is that of an angel.
